The Enugu State Governor, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has disbursed ₦590,000,000 million to 118 autonomous communities in the State.
Governor Ugwuanyi handed over the cheque of ₦5,000,000 to each of the traditional rulers and Presidents-General of the communities at the Government House, Enugu.
He stated that the ₦5,000, 000 was the first tranche of the ₦10,000,000 approved by the State Executive Council for development projects in areas of people’s choice.
The State Commissioner for Rural Development, Chief Gab Onuzulike, said that the benefitting communities were among the over 400 communities approved by the Enugu State Executive Council that had opened accounts with designated banks.
He added that the remaining communities would receive theirs as soon as they opened bank accounts and send the details to the Ministry of Chieftaincy Matters or Rural Development.
Responding on behalf of the royal fathers and the Town Union Presidents-General, the Chairman , Enugu State Council of Traditional Rulers, Ambassador Lawrence Agubuzu, thanked the State Government for the gesture.
He described it a good socio-economic development strategy for Enugu State.
The approved ₦10,000,000 for disbursement to 450 autonomous communities in the State was well received by the people.
