REPORTER: PEACE AGBO

public spirited individuals and other philanthropists in Nigeria have been advised to sponsor indigent brilliant students in higher institutions to better their future.

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, gave the advice while handing over scholarship letters to 46 students studying in various universities across the Nigeria.

The scholarship scheme, which is personal effort of the governor, is entitled “Alex Otti 2024 Foundation.”

Governor Otti explained that the essence of the gesture was to lift burden on the indigent parents and for brilliant children to enjoy brighter future.

According to the Governor, the selection of the recipients is based on merit and warned that any the candidate who could not meet up with the targeted Cumulative Point Average would be dropped from the scheme for the next academic year.

The Governor, who noted that “the scholarship board is currently sponsoring 250 undergraduates,” urged the recipients to take full advantage of the scholarship to improve their academic work to enable them to become assets to the society.

Earlier, the Coordinator of Alex Otti Foundation, Dr. Destiny Isiguzor, said the foundation was a vision conceived by Dr Alex Otti years back as he had offered scholarship to students in tertiary and basic education but resolved to have a scholarship scheme to enable it to have a definite process.

Dr. Isiguzor described the event as a celebration of Dr. Alex Otti’s passion for education and benevolence to indigent brilliant students whose vision and hope for education would have been aborted.

In their separate vote of thanks on behalf of the recipients of Dr. Alex Otti 2024 Foundation, Miss Success Nwamkpa and a parent, Mrs. Chidnma Okwu, all thanked Governor Otti for the financial gesture and assured him of studying harder to continue to make the foundation proud in their prospective career choices.
